God, I'm so annoyed at Jonas getting off easy for every sh*tty thing he does. Could some bandits just rob and murder him on the way home or something? Sheez...

Whoever • 1 year ago

yes he deserves to be unalived

Fortune's Feline • 1 year ago

I mean, I can understand your frustration, but I think people are looking at it wrong, death would be too easy for him, it would just give him exactly what he seeks, an escape.

Personally, it looks to me like he's already setting himself up for a worse fate than death by the way he's going about things, we can see his sanity and self esteem being chipped away bit by bit with every thoughtless, desperate, and selfish act he makes. He's building the walls of his own personal hell out of the fires of his failures one by one and he's feeding those fires with his own sense of worthlessness and ever dwindling self respect. No matter how he seems on the outside we can see that he's falling apart on the inside. He either has to change his ways or eventually go utterly insane....in a gray world of endlessly tormented misery, not the "fun" kind of insane either.

Fortune's Feline • 1 year ago

Let me add what I think is a fitting quote from LOTR...
“Frodo: 'It's a pity Bilbo didn't kill Gollum when he had the chance.'"
Gandalf: 'Pity? It's pity that stayed Bilbo's hand. Many that live deserve
death. Some that die deserve life. Can you give it to them, Frodo? Do
not be too eager to deal out death in judgment. Even the very wise
cannot see all ends. My heart tells me that Gollum has some part to play
in it, for good or evil, before this is over."

Fortune's Feline • 1 year ago

Now don't assume I'm excusing or condoning the way Jonas is acting, just that I think death would be an awfully shortsighted judgement. We may be killing off the cornerstone to this story's saving grace for Ann and Challe later on. In LOTR Gollum died in the end, but his method of death was Frodo's (and Middle Earths) salvation, think what might have happened without him stopping Frodo.

Dreamblade • 1 year ago

Gollum finally got the ring back before he died, so to fit that we should give Jonas the title of Royal Silver Viscount and THEN kill him.

At the very least, he should have his REPUTATION ruined. And 40 lashes would be fitting in medieval times for attempted murder. Blackmail with a fairy wing won't be a big deal because fairies don't have rights, but attempted murder should definitely get a punishment.

vovan1 • 1 year ago

what a nice quote

Porthya • 1 year ago

We shouldn't forget that Gollum still had to karmically perish, I'm not sure this variation on the character will have any such similar fate, since SAFT doesn't bear the same tone as LOTR. LOTR has just about as much sadness and darkness as it has beauty.

Porthya • 1 year ago

You're overall perfectly right, but the way the story is going, he's not receiving any punishment whatsoever, his downright crimes(including publicly slandering the Silver Sugar Viscount and the King-but they kept these events out of the anime) should've been punished somehow, yet they're constantly swept under the rug or ignored. The events from the novel I mentioned were going on in a big city public market, where one would expect some guards to be patrolling for the sake of public order. But none of that was the case.
And the rage is earned, especially with the way he keeps being a threat to others' lives.

Jack • 1 year ago

The king could have killed him right there if it wasnt for Anne ;-;

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 1 year ago

Right? It would have been better punishment for him to stay in the castle not being able to please the duke. I'm sure we'll have a moment later where Jonas sees that Anne is out of the castle and he'll find that annoying or something, but I doubt that will be a satisfying interaction at all.

WorldGN18 • 1 year ago

I need the author to not use Jonas anymore

Divine demon GOD Aris • 1 year ago

I hope they plunder jonas' booty hole

Ani gamer420 • 1 year ago

I also find it annoying he gets away with it

Golb89 • 1 year ago

I'm much more annoyed at how he somehow manages to pull all of his stunts off completely unnoticed: at this point they are just becoming massive plotholes.

(And yes, i know his fairy has a "100% chameleon" lesser power, but even if he could do the exact same thing himself too it'd still seem impossible imo)

Also, being a plot-relevant character i guess he is also flagged as "essential", thus he can't actually be killed until a specific scripted event kills him or removes the flag.

Porthya • 1 year ago

On top of that, the animation production crew is taking out scenes that would explain how easily what fairies say or do could help their human owners or companions or be held against them. Owed to his broken bird personality and past(in the novel we get Challe's pov too), Challe's more passive regarding Anne's choices and plans(lets her take the lead and do the talking most of the time, even when she's giving wrong/insufficient arguments, and Jonas wanted to remove him for the physical threat, since he clearly jumps straight to violence if pushed enough).
They're causing plot-holes to keep the story far more lighthearted than the writer made it herself, in spite of her adding some very dark insinuations to the plot to keep the premise valid.

Haha

Deus The Great • 1 year ago

I start to feel that Jonas is its author's favorite lmao. I have a déjà vu that the author will make a redeem arc for Jonas, which is definitely stupid consider of what he had done so far. Hope the author not try to go that way.

MeguminExplosion • 1 year ago

Heh. Author made him the punching bag of this show.

Rannen 19 • 1 year ago

That's what makes him a great villain, everyone hates him. :)

Dreamblade • 1 year ago

Not if it makes me stop watching the show.

Whoever • 1 year ago

World's most childish and stupidest villain strikes again... just tell your uber-killer-fairy what's up and it will be over after 3s

Paradise SLU • 1 year ago

I know right.

FraZz • 1 year ago

really hate when animes re-use villains like that. just kill his dumbass off already.

Aries thezodiac • 1 year ago

Anne wouldn't allow that. She's too kind.

Porthya • 1 year ago

The problem with that is that if other people find out, Anne and her fairy friends would be punished, Challe would be instantly put to death even. And Anne doesn't like to push anyone onto a murderous path. But I'd take no issue with Salim getting fed up with Jonas on behalf of his boss( Hugh) and his sorta admirable rival, Challe.

Dreamblade • 1 year ago

Challe already killed three humans who tried to capture him, remember? And anyway in a world with bandits everywhere, it would be easy to pass his death off as a bandit murder.

It's just weird that nobody in the show seems to care about all the actual crimes he's committed. Even Anne doesn't care that much. It's just weird.

Porthya • 1 year ago

I don't recall Challe killing any non-actual bandits, and the SSV doesn't let him kill those hunters, particularly because the hunters and their trade are protected by the law, fairies aren't; Jonas is registered as a member of one of the 3 Silver Sugar Crafts guilds, there's no way to pass him as a bandit, if the Duke kills Jonas, it stirs even more trouble with the Crown, AND with the guilds too, landing Anne and Challe in broiling water, or from frying pan into the fire; and Challe showing up with no apparent "master" makes him even more suspicious. Fairies are in too vulnerable a situation. That's why even the Silver Sugar Viscount is pushing the boundaries with Challe, to supposedly keep him and Anne out of trouble. I've fallen behind on all my anime for the past month, but I know how the arc with the duke ends, it left no room for Anne and Challe to accuse Jonas of anything now. She should've said everything while in front of the king.
I agree that Anne's personal values are terrible from my angle as well, but the environment is built to be believable enough to those who know how corrupted and classist the Middle Ages could/would be or were.

Can’t trust edited comments

Porthya • 1 year ago

So you can't trust anyone who speaks English as a foreign/second language and might notice grammar or vocabulary mistakes after making the comment?! Interesting.

If only it weren't for that pesky conscience...

Duke: "This is wrong!"
Anne: "What is wrong?"
Duke: "EVERYTHING!"
Anne: "(╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻"
Craftsmen's mortal enemy: The Unreasonable Client

Golb89 • 1 year ago

Technically the tableflip thing was also done by the Duke though...

Porthya • 1 year ago

Her questions are all wrong too, she should've posed the same questions she was gunning on Challe about Liz. It shows just how much of a noob she is as a professional, in spite of her talent and dedication.

Me: "He can't possibly be a bigger peace of s**t"
Jonas: "Hold my brain"

Nan Demo K(Nai)ves • 1 year ago

Wow, Jonas got even worse, he was happy to have her imprisoned there as long as he got to go free and he got this by holding Mythril's wing as hostage and made her off Challe. I am not looking forward to there reunion because I'm sure this isn't the last time we'll Jonas, unfortunately.

It's amusing how annoyed Challe is, he is the one that obediently listened to her and didn't fight back yet he's throwing a tantrum. I thought it was funny how he purposely put his foot on the table.

I also thought the duke wanted a realistic portrayal but I am sure by learning about the fairy and how the duke talks about the fairy, Anne will have a better way of envisioning how she should be portrayed.

Golb89 • 1 year ago

That was quite obvious since basically the very moment they stepped into that castle though...

Porthya • 1 year ago

This was the moment where I thought the author was laying it on too thick, to have Anne realise what the relationship between the duke and the fairy had been only after she'd forced Anne(via Jerka**) into losing Challe(the fairy she's in love with), especially since at least one portrait shows the fairy with both wings...and she already found out the duke can't stand the idea of enslaved fairies.

Olympia • 1 year ago

Exactly.. everyone can see he loved her ... what is there to ask about? :D

Jack • 1 year ago

Glad I tried one more, this was better (or my expectations were very low lol). Jonas still the moth****** he's always been and will be. Kind of obvious for Challe to not leave her, but glad he found an old friend to "help" him more.

Next ep Anne's gonna make the perfect set of wings!!!

I enjoyed seeing the duke bully jonas

LesK • 1 year ago

ok, hints were given in this episode. this dude has been forsaking his punishment into exile's one requirement to be a stay of execution... visit the king and pay homage once a year. so for a year and a half he's been brooding over something. the fairy lady in the paintings is dead or vanished/enslaved/imprisoned or something. my guess, somebody in the court took her, ripped her wing off and enslaved her. this dude can't do crap about it because the king is just enforcing the laws. there are no free fairies, just ones who haven't been captured yet. or those whom got their freedom but will be captured yet again later on. the king won't force whomever has this dude's fairy wife prisoner to release her or punish them for killing her or something... so this dude is brooding in his castle because he's powerless to save his love. well. that's my hypothesis.

Divine demon GOD Aris • 1 year ago

yeah seems lime he is ready to die

DesuYoda • 1 year ago

Jonas is a Dantean level villain that needs to be reformed somehow.
With lots of discipline. 👹👹👹
